Steps for Early Phonemic Awareness
New research confirms that most children are born with enough “brain
power” to be highly intelligent and
successful. Whether they receive the right sort of nurturing, opportunities
and stimulation in the early years can make the difference.
This workshop will introduce a variety of carefully tested activities
and concepts proven to have a positive impact on the physical, emotional
and intellectual development of children during the very important
first five years of life.
Special emphasis will be placed on early phonemic awareness. Recent
research reveals how early in life babies focus on the sounds (and
language) of their home environment while, at the same time, losing
the ability to recognize the sounds of languages not heard there.
Participants taking this workshop will receive a CD of songs and lullabies
utilizing all of the phonemes, or basic sounds, of the English language,
beautifully sung and perfectly pronounced, so that most infants listening
to this CD can be prepared to more easily learn English before going
to school.
Early phonemic awareness will also be placed in the context of a variety
of multi-sensory activities that caregivers and parents can do with
infants and very young children to improve many of the physical skills
associated with literacy, such as eye tracking, auditory acuity, and
fine and gross motor movement.
The foundations for happiness and success are laid down early in life.
